ServicesBAB services are available to anyone living in the Bucks County Council and Milton Keynes areas and has a serious sight loss. This includes adults and children who are registered blind or partially sighted, and those who are not registered but have significantly impaired vision. Rehabilitation TrainingOur team of qualified and experienced Rehabilitation Officers gives specialist advice and training in many areas to help visually impaired people maintain their independence. More information about BAB Rehab Services. Community Workers SupportBAB has three Community Workers who provide extra support to particularly vulnerable members. Specialised EquipmentAt our Aylesbury Resource Centre, we have a wide range of specialised equipment such as talking watches, clocks and kitchen equipment. We also have some of the latest computer software which magnify the image on the screen or produce audio output. Awareness TrainingTo ensure that the needs of blind and partially sighted people are met in hospitals, by council staff and by the business community, we run awareness training sessions. Support for the Younger Visually Impaired (and their Parents)To help with the extra stressed visual impairment causes for children, younger people and their parents we have a Development Officer with specific responsibility, who runs trips and provides support. PublicationsWe produce several publications that target visually impaired people such as the BAB Newsletter and the Insight Directory which gives answers to questions about sight loss and information on organisations at your service. Information BankWe can link you with many other agencies which provide helpful services for visually impaired people. For example Talking Newspapers, special schools and colleges and parent support groups. We have HSE Talking Leaflets, a Department of Health guide to receiving direct payments from your local council, basic information on eye conditions and links to other organisations' web pages online. Campaign IssuesWe support the latest and ongoing campaign issues such as Access To Taxis for Guide Dog Owners and Access to Information Campaigns. Eye ClinicsAt the busiest eye clinics in hospitals across Buckinghamshire, BAB has volunteers to give advice and details on services available. Social ActivitiesBAB has 10 divisions which are run by volunteers. Each division runs its own social calendar. Some of the old favourites are craft classes and weekly social clubs. There is also a Fitness Group, five Bowls Clubs and a Walking Group. We also hold activities for our youngest members during school holidays. Recording ServicesOur volunteers will record internal and external information for our members on tape. Visiting VolunteersOur volunteers visit our members often to help with specific tasks such as shopping, or just to have a friendly chat. TransportOur volunteer drivers help blind and partially sighted people attend their local club or bring them to Information Days and Craft classes. | ||
