and Partially Sighted People

Membership

We currently have 3500 members in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes. Membership to BAB is free to those who are entitled. Also our services are available free of charge, to all our members and anybody who has a serious sight loss and lives within Buckinghamshire.

If an Ophthalmologist (Eye Consultant) registers you as Sight Impaired/Partially Sighted or Severely Sight Impaired/Blind and you live in in Bucks County Council Area, your details will be referred to BAB automatically by the Hospital. If you are registered by an Ophthalmologist and live in Milton Keynes, your details will be sent to Milton Keynes Council. As long as you agree, Milton Keynes Council will then pass your contact details to BAB so we can offer you our help.

You can access BAB services before being registered:

  • If, as a result of your sight loss, you are experiencing difficulties with everyday tasks, you can ask your optician to give you a letter to send to BAB.
  • If you attend the Hospital Eye Clinic, staff can make a referral to BAB on your behalf.
  • You or a relative or a friend can contact us to ask us to help.

Once you are referred to BAB, a Rehabilitation Officer will contact you to carry out an assessment of the help you need. They will then be able to show you how to cope with your sight loss in lots of practical ways.
