Philip Roche

BAB member, Philip Roche, who died recently was a well known and admired local figure. A carpenter, he spent 15 months in the Royal Engineers where he lost his sight due to an explosion. Remarkably determined and resilient, Philip reslated his own roof, built a new staircase in his own home and continued with often intricate carpentry work. A strong churchgoer, Philip came from a family who were founder members of St. Joseph’s Parish. He was an example to many.

Madeline (Maddie) Forester MBE (on the left) died on 5th April 2007 and was Chairwoman for BAB's West Division. A larger than life character, Madeline worked tirelessly helping blind and partially sighted people. Full of enthusiasm, a great motivator and 100% committed, Madeline will be greatly missed.
