Volunteering for BAB

Many of the services BAB provides are only made possible by our dedicated team of over 600 volunteers who provide invaluable support to our members. They are extremely valuable and help us to offer a complete service to our Blind and Partially Sighted members throughout the County of Buckinghamshire. We are always looking to increase our number of volunteers, so please do take a moment to read on, and see what the different roles are, and maybe you will feel that you could also become one of our fantastic team!

Here are a few of the roles that our volunteers carry out for us: -

  • Drivers

to drive our members to their Social, Craft and Bowling Clubs. Occasional drivers also needed to bring members to our Centre in Aylesbury to try out the various equipment and aids to assist their independence.

  • Club Helpers

to assist for a couple of hours per fortnight at the Social Clubs, Craft Clubs and Bowling Clubs.

  • Home Visitors

to visit members in their own homes for a chat, to help them read their mail or take them to the shops.

  • Fundraising

ideas and someone to run an event for us such as a Sponsored Dog Walk or Cycle Ride, Tennis match or coffee morning.

  • Walking Partners

if you enjoy walking and can assist a blind or partially sighted member to walk with you and be their eyes.

  • Hospital Information Officers

to give information to those who have just been diagnosed with sight loss in the eye clinics.

  • Link Officers and First Visitors

to visit newly referred members to inform them of what is available from BAB and see what help they need.

  • Office Angels

come into the office in Aylesbury and help us with all sorts of tasks, from mailshots to computer work.

These are just a selection of the roles our Volunteers are involved in. If you would like to know more, then please contact us and we can discuss what events and roles you might feel would suit you.

Volunteering can take as much or as little time as you can give, so if you could only help for 3 hours, one day or a fortnight, we can find you a role that we are sure you would enjoy.

We need volunteers in all areas of Buckinghamshire including Milton Keynes. If you would like to hear more about our volunteering programme, please e-mail our Volunteer Liaison Co-ordinator Jan Eedle-Wells or telephone the BAB Resource Centre, in Aylesbury, on 01296 487 556.
